Healthcare Adds 44,000 Jobs in April; Majority in Hospitals and Ambulatory Services

It’s a good time to be in healthcare. In April, healthcare businesses added 44,000 jobs, a big surge for the industry and represent a big chunk of the 160,000 jobs created that month among all hiring sectors, according to data by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Most of the increase occurred in hospitals (+23,000) and ambulatory health care services (+19,000), which raised total health care employment to 502,000 over the year.

Among ambulatory services, outpatient care centers added the most at 6,400 new jobs while physicians’ offices added 2,000 jobs.
